EEA & Norway grants statistics – Competition results Business Innovation Greece 2020 | Winnovart

This is why we are introducing a comprehensive presentation of the EEA & Norway grants results available so far (the business programmes operated by Innovation Norway). We believe this might be the most comprehensive analysis so far on the market and we trust this will enable you to make better decisions when applying for funding under this mechanism. 

These are the results of the Business Innovation programme in Greece, 2020 - 2021 competition, based on the information published by the Fund Operator during 2021 - 2022. 

Grant recipients: 9 successful approvals, with 5 projects under ICT focus area and 4 under the Green Industry Innovation area. Regarding the type of the projects, out of the 9 successful approvals, 3 were investment projects and 6 were R&D projects, while 6 out of the 9 successful projects were donor partnerships projects

Submitted applications: 37 project proposals were submitted under the Business Innovation Programme of the EEA & Norway grants in Greece.  

EUR 13 million was the budget made available to SMEs and large enterprises via the 2nd call for project proposals under Business Innovation Greece, operated by Innovation Norway. The call for proposals opened in October 2020, with funding intensities of up to 80% and grants up to EUR 1.5 million. The deadline for this call for proposals was on 18 Feb 2021.  

Approximately EUR 33 million was the total budget of all submitted applications, with grant amount of EUR 18.3 million. Around 33% of the projects have a Norwegian partner, while no other project was proposed with a partner from Iceland or Lichtenstein.

The call for proposals covers 3 focus areas: Green Industry Innovation, Blue Growth and ICT. 

38% of the applications were submitted under Green Industry Innovation (EUR 5.3 million grant available), 71% were under Individual Project Scheme and 29% were under the Small Grant Scheme. The success rate for grant approval in this focus area was 29%.

In Blue Growth, 19% of the applications submitted were under this area (EUR 1.7 million grant available), 86% were under Individual Project Scheme and 14% were under the Small Grant Scheme. For Blue Growth, the success rate for grant approval was 0%.

In ICT, 43% of the applications submitted were under this area (EUR 6 million grant available), 69% were under Individual Project Scheme and 31% were under the Small Grant Scheme. For ICT the success rate for grant approval was 32%.

Regarding the type of the project proposals approved, 77% were R&D projects while 23% were investments projects.

Out of all the approved projects, 66% were donor partnerships projects, i.e the project included a partner. 

This data is based on the information published by the Fund Operator.   

The projects submitted are going now through an evaluation process that typically comprises 3 stages:  

  1. Administrative & Eligibility check
  2. Technical and financial assessment (includes a score-based evaluation)
  3. Selection of projects (shortlisting of projects and pre-contracting communication)    

The overall evaluation process would typically take 4-6 months (from the application deadline) subject to the Fund Operator’s own timeline and resources.
